Terry Crews Demanding the Localization of Mother 3 is Your Friday Mood
Other / 30. 4. 2021

It’s Friday, which means it’s another week gone by with no news of Mother 3 coming to the West. It’s been 15 years and 10 days since the game launched in Japan, and ideas of a localization have long felt like a pipe dream. Well, Terry Crews is trying to change that. On Twitter, Crews left a simple and clear message for Nintendo, saying nothing besides, “LOCALIZE MOTHER 3!” LOCALIZE MOTHER 3! — terry crews (@terrycrews) April 30, 2021 While Crews’ wishes certainly won’t sway Nintendo one way or another, it’s already adding fuel to the hype train, with dozens of folks voicing their approval of Crews’ demands. I hope @NintendoAmerica is hearing this!! — Zion Grassl (@ZionDood) April 30, 2021 Mother 3 is the Japan-only sequel to the SNES cult-classic EarthBound, which was titled Mother 2 in Japan. Mother 3 was originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006. Fans have been asking for its localization basically ever since. At E3 2018, IGN asked then-Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime about a potential English release for the EarthBound sequel. At the time, Reggie said Nintendo is aware of the wishes for Mother 3’s localization, adding, “When we have…

Last year’s Ubisoft hostage hoax reportedly the work of notorious Rainbow Six cheater
Other / 30. 4. 2021

The hostage hoax that saw armed police rush to the offices of Ubisoft Montreal while dozens of employees barricaded themselves on the rooftop for safety was the work of a notorious Rainbow Six cheater, says a new report by Canadian newspaper La Presse. According to court documents obtained by La Presse, the catalyst for last year’s police response was a hoax call from an individual claiming that five men had taken 40 employees hostage at Ubisoft – and that they would “blow up everything” if demands for a $2m ransom weren’t met. Employees were later safely escorted off the premises as police continued to investigate the scene, but La Presse reports the incident didn’t mark the end of the caller’s malicious campaign. In December, for instance, an individual allegedly claimed to have placed a bomb near the daycare facility within Ubisoft Montreal’s offices, while another call in January claimed a senior Ubisoft employee had been shot in the head following another hostage incident. In both cases, the police are said to have made more “discreet” checks instead of immediately launching a major operation such as the one seen in November. Read more

Witness the Bizarre Creativity of Miitopia’s Community
Other / 30. 4. 2021

With the heyday of Nintendo’s goofy avatar creation system long past, Miis have been enjoying a quiet retirement, the Miis have recently been enjoying a quiet retirement as a buried, unused feature on the Nintendo Switch. Until recently, when their goofy creative antics to light again by a demo of a port of a four-year-old 3DS game: Miitopia. [ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/29/miitopia-miitopia-makes-over-mii-characters-trailer”] In its prior incarnation, Miitopia was an RPG where all the characters were Miis, and not just any Miis. In the 3DS version players were able to assign their friend’s Miis as party members or critical NPCs, while smaller roles were cast automatically from a pool of random Miis, meaning you got weird combinations like a romance between Princess Birdo and Nigel Thornberry, or Dr. Mario guarding the royal King Dr. Zoidberg. These assignments were played out to hilarious effect as the characters had both scripted and random interactions throughout your journey. Now, it’s being ported to the Nintendo Switch, but without the same robust Mii sharing features that the 3DS had, it’s taking a different approach by introducing more robust Mii creation tools. This has inspired the Nintendo community, who are using the surprisingly detailed wig and makeup tools…

Returnal Director Says Difficulty is ‘Integral Part’ of Housemarque’s Philosophy
Other / 30. 4. 2021

Housemarque’s ambitious PS5-exclusive roguelike shooter Returnal is out today, and while it’s received plenty of praise (including from us) for its haunting atmosphere, clever story, and shooter action, it’s also sparking discussion about its considerable difficulty. And now, the game’s director has weighed in too. On Next-Gen Console Watch, game director Harry Krueger and marketing and business development director Mikael Haveri both affirmed that Returnal’s challenge stems from Housemarque’s “arcade roots.” Housemarque has historically incorporated arcade systems and styles in its games since its origins in the 90s, and while it declared years ago after Nex Machina that “arcade is dead,” Housemarque clearly isn’t abandoning that spirit in its newer titles. [ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/30/returnal-is-a-showcase-for-the-ps5s-power-next-gen-console-watch”] “We started development four years ago, and I don’t think the vision has changed that much. Housemarque games are known for their, let’s say… challenge… there’s usually a difficulty to them,” Haveri said. “Nex Machina for example, you can go through the game on Easy, but you’ll never get to the last level, and then there’s other unlockables, and so on. So there’s an ‘easy to learn, but hard to master’ mentality at work there.” Krueger agreed. “Without a challenge we don’t feel like you can have…

Boris the Rocket is Now Available on Xbox One
Other / 30. 4. 2021

We got the idea of Boris the Rocket from a dream our programmer had. He dreamed of a Soviet instrument panel. So, we met up, put our heads together and came up with a general concept after everyone pitched their ideas. We saw the importance of design documents after our work on Black Baron when we’d parted ways with our game designer and had to go back to square one. I should probably mention how we built our team. In 2009, I met the guys when I started playing World of Warcraft. The next year, they invited me to play Project Reality, a Battlefield 2 mod, and by 2013 we started a clan. There were around five of us, then more people joined in, then some switched to ARMA 2, created a squad made up of those team members who left the mod and called it TOR (Tactics Over Rules). So, we kept on playing, raised our skills together, graduated from colleges as we went along, found jobs etc. Then in 2018 I got tired of working in my field, so I decided to try my hand at 3D. By then one of us had been coding in 1C, so…

Get those neat official NES Switch controllers on sale at Nintendo Store US!
Other / 30. 4. 2021

Have you tried playing a game requiring a D-Pad with the Switch Pro Controller or Joy-Cons? It’s awful. Save yourself from the pain with Nintendo’s officially released NES Switch controllers. If you’re a part of Switch Online and have been enjoying the free NES and SNES titles, you might find the standard controllers a little… lacking. The Joy-Cons don’t have a true D-Pad, and the D-Pad on the Pro Controller is less than perfect. I’ve had my fair share of Tetris frustrations with it! But, Nintendo released some official NES Switch controllers so that you can play these retro games with ease. The problem was that Nintendo only made a limited amount of them, and they sold out pretty quickly, leaving a lot of Switch owners disappointed and looking for alternatives. Well, at the Nintendo Store US, not only are these NES Switch controllers back in stock–they’re also on sale! Right now, you can pick them up for $41.99. Not bad for an official controller set at all, even if they look goofy charging on your Switch. Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers (for Switch) for $41.99 at Nintendo Store US Remember what I said about alternatives, though? If these NES Switch…

Pokémon Snap: Pokédex List Guide
Other / 30. 4. 2021

Now that New Pokémon Snap is out and photographers everywhere are diving in, more and more players are discovering the wonders of the game’s Lental region. In New Pokémon Snap, players are tasked with filling out their Photodex, a catalog similar to the Pokédex found in the mainline entries. The region contains various diverse biomes for players to ride along. While those areas certainly contain plenty of scenic vistas, the main attraction is how many different Pokémon they house. Unlike the Pokédex, New Pokémon Snap’s Photodex fills out as you go, meaning they are numbered in the order in which you can encounter them. This makes filling out a particular level simpler. Because of this, Pokémon and their evolved forms aren’t placed next to one another. If you’re worried your favorite monster didn’t make it, we’ve got you (mostly) covered.  All Confirmed Pokémon Snap Entries So Far New Pokémon Snap features more than 200 different Pokémon to discover and photograph. Check out all the creatures we’ve encountered to this point in our photographic journey. Just be warned: The following list contains spoilers. Be sure to bookmark this page and check back as we continue to update the list of Pokémon…
