Papa Roach Concert Reportedly Used Stolen Video Game Artwork for a Poster
Other / 31. 7. 2019

Papa Roach, the nu-metal band known for their hit song “Last Resort,” is accused of using stolen art from a video game for one of its tour posters without the permission from the developers. Papa Roach’s official Facebook page posted a picture of a tour poster used to promote the band’s recent performance at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Texas. The poster features a reddish fish monster looking at her phone with Papa roach and opener Asking Alexandria’s name on the front. The name of the venue is also printed along the bottom. Pre-Review Impressions Of Madden NFL 20
Other / 31. 7. 2019

We’ve been playing Madden 20 for a little while now, but as much as we’ve seen we’re still not ready to deliver the final review verdict. Until then, here are my impressions of the game so far, from the new X-Factor and Superstar abilities to the QB1: Face of the Franchise mode. GAMEPLAY & NEW SUPERSTAR ABILITIES Madden NFL 20 feels better than last year in terms of how players feel – particularly in the running game or in the open field. It’s not miles away from Madden 19, but it feels better making slight adjustments and there aren’t as many jerky movements. The X-Factor and Superstar abilities add in another layer of strategy that is noticeable but relatively balanced. Superstar abilities are automatically always active for the players that have them, like T.Y. Hilton being better at the double move than your average player or Landon Collins having a guaranteed tackle when hit-sticking ball carriers. X-Factors, however, must be activated by gameplay, like Saquon Barkley getting a better fake-our rate on defenders after he first runs for 10+ yards three times. At launch, there are 50 players with X-Factors (who also have Superstar abilities) and 30 players with just Superstar abilities (and then…

The Top 10 Game Boy Games
Other / 31. 7. 2019

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the North American release of Nintendo’s first handheld gaming device, the Game Boy. Released in 1989, the Game Boy was a successor of sorts to the hugely successful NES, but was completely handheld. To commemorate the occasion we decided to debate our 10 favorite games released for the original handheld. You could argue the Game Boy and its successor the Game Boy Color were essentially the same system, but in order to keep this list as close to the original Game Boy as possible, we decided not to include great Game Boy Color games like Pokémon Gold & Silver (which was playable on the original Game Boy, but released with the Game Boy Color logo on its spine) and Color-exclusive games like Metal Gear Solid (Metal Gear: Ghost Babel in Japan). We also skipped games that received simultaneous Game Boy/NES releases, like Dr. Mario. With those caveats in place, we hope you enjoy debating our list as much as we did! 10 Gargoyle’s Quest A spin-off of the Ghosts ‘n Goblins franchise, Gargoyle’s quest released in 1990 and let us do something we had really never done before in a video game: play as the bad guy….

Over 2.3 million people tuned into Fortnite’s World Cup Finals at the weekend
Other / 31. 7. 2019

Fortnite, you might have heard, is quite popular. And now, another reminder of just how notably popular it is: a peak of over 2.3 million concurrent viewers watched Fortnite’s World Cup Solo Finals, which took place in New York this weekend. It’s an achievement that, says Epic, makes it the most-watched competitive gaming event of all time “excluding China”. But the reality is that the final tally of spectators is likely to be much higher; the 2.3 million figure only accounts for people tuning in via Twitch and YouTube, and not those watching in-game or on other social media and streaming services. Those that stayed the course for Sunday’s Solo Finals got to see 16-year-old Kyle ‘Bugha’ Giersdorf secure his place as champion, winning him a hefty $3 million USD prize and a well-earned moment in the spotlight, after seeing off almost 40 million challengers. A day later, Giersdorf appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to chat about his impressive win. Read more

Respawn’s VR Game Will Be Revealed At Oculus Connect
Other / 31. 7. 2019

In 2017, Facebook and Oculus Studios announced the biggest developer news the virtual reality department had so far: Respawn entertainment, who had just released the seminal Titanfall 2, were making an exclusive game for the Oculus headset. While it was made clear at the outset that this wouldn’t be either a Titanfall game or a Star Wars game, there have been very few details since then. Now, ahead of Respawn’s Jedi: Fallen Order releasing later this year, we’ll get our first look at that VR game at Oculus Connect in September. The news comes from Oculus’ post announcing the dates for Oculus Connect 6, the annual convention for all things Oculus. It also details a bit about what we can expect from the game, not that any of it is particularly shocking for a virtual reality game made by Respawn. “OC6 is also an amazing opportunity to see the latest from game developers around the world,” the post reads. “Respawn Entertainment (Apex Legends and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order) will join us at this year’s show to reveal a new AAA first-person combat title made in partnership with Oculus Studios, including the first hands-on playable demo.” Oculus Connect takes place on…

What the Game Boy Means to Me, 30 Years Later
Other / 31. 7. 2019

In 1992, my grandmother, my cousin and I were in a mall someplace in Bromley, Kent, England. At eight years old I was developing a burgeoning appreciation for visiting the mall with my grandmother; as a New Zealander who visited her in the UK once a year, she had a tendency to spoil me. During this particular mall visit, my cousin told her he wanted a Game Boy, Nintendo’s handheld console that had been released in Europe a couple of years prior. I didn’t know what a “Game Boy” was at that time, but I knew that if my cousin wanted one, then I wanted one too. The Game Boy, an innocuous purchase for a kid who only really wanted one out of FOMO, changed my life. Continue reading…

Composer Jesper Kyd Looks Back On Borderlands 3, Assassin’s Creed, and Hitman
Other / 31. 7. 2019

BAFTA award-winning composer Jesper Kyd has been working in the games industry for almost 30 years. From Borderlands to Darksiders, Assassin’s Creed to Hitman, Kyd has worked with iconic franchises from their beginnings, shaping sounds and worlds as he goes. This year was big for Kyd and his musical legacy; on the 10th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed 2, the Assassin’s Creed Symphony went on tour, and a Hitman legacy vinyl collection was compiled of all his work on the franchise. We talked to Kyd about his past work on Assassin’s Creed, Hitman, and Borderlands, and asked what we could expect from the upcoming Borderlands 3.   When you started working with Gearbox on the Borderlands games, what were they looking for with their music? For the first couple of games, they were looking for an atmospheric score that fit well with the desert setting of Pandora, with currents of anarchy and broken futuristic elements running through it. The games take place in its own distinctive universe so that gave us the inspiration to push things in a unique direction. The characters are really strong and over the top, mixed together with a lot of humor, which is also something we keep…
